As experts in the field of minority youth in Europe YEN expresses the interests, ideas and demands of youth from the YEN network in a variety of ways. Publications are one of them.

Report “Minority youth in Europe: A state of play”

2021

This report was developed as the final step in a three-year project – the Minority Messengers

Project run by YEN from 2018 until the end of 2020. The overall aim of the project was to empower minority youth to raise awareness on issues and topics important to them as members of minorities in Europe. They form the basis for this report, on which a group of volunteers worked together, to create as the last part of the Minority Messengers Project in 2020. The report provided the opportunity to foster critical thinking processes and empower minority youth to be part of the participatory process through:

  • a) developing their sense of ownership of the process by bringing and incorporating their insights and experiences in the process, and
  • b) making them feel heard by creating an opportunity to make their insights accessible to European institutions and other youth organisations in a sustainable way.

Booklet “Youth, make some noise”

2021

The booklet is a guide in project management and inspiration for youth organisations. It describes step by step how to create your project: project management theory, funding opportunities and other tricks and tips. To demonstrate the creation of a project from the beginning and possible challenges that can occur, we described the process of our Podcast. With this booklet, we want to encourage the youth in our network to “make some noise” and inspire them to start planning projects again. We want to enable young people from national, ethnic and linguistic minorities to take the initiative, reflect on and claim their rights and support them in creating projects, that address the topics that are important for them.

Toolkit on Youth Participation

(developed after the Kick-Off-Seminar 2019)

The toolkit is designed to be used in workshops, seminars or projects with young people, dealing with the topic of youth participation and using the methods of non-formal education. In it, you will find an introduction to the concept of youth participation, explanations of selected terminology, methods and activities which will help you explore this subject, as well as a collection of other resources that might be helpful when dealing with youth participation.

The YEN White Paper on Minority Rights

2014

The „YEN White Paper on Minority Rights,” has the following goals:

  • to call attention to the existing (and long-standing) problems faced by minority youth;
  • to develop a new strategy for the development of our network;
  • to present demands, advice, and measures for state and non-state organizations from the local to the international level, in the interest of improving the situation of autochthonous minorities.

The White Paper is:

  • a political instrument to influence decision-makers and to articulate YEN´s standpoints on the themes of Social Inclusion, Language and Education, the Roma Minority and Volunteering.
  • an internal instrument. It is an expression of YEN´s self-conception and vision as a European network, which contains a collection of ideas that shall support YEN and its member organization in implementing our goals.

Code of Conduct der JEV

To achieve our goals YEN uses a variety of activities. A main element of our work is implementing international youth exchanges, international seminars, congresses, workshops, cultural and social events. We believe that intercultural exchange is a key to achieving greater understanding and to empowering young people from minorities.

During YEN events we want participants to freely express themselves, and to gain a greater understanding of the diversity amongst minorities in Europe. We expect anyone joining our events to do so with an open mind and to treat everyone in a way that ensures respect, dignity, equality, and their right to participate.

Therefore in 2023 YENs General Assembly approved a Code of Conduct which describes how YEN envisions how everyone should act at a YEN event:

Demands of young people from minorities in Europe

(developed during the Easter Seminar 2019)

The demands have been developed by the participants of YEN ́s Easter Seminar 2019. The participants voiced them in the course of a workshop and after intensive debates about topics relevant to and chosen by them. These demands reflect the needs and interests of young people from national or ethnic minorities in Europe and shed a light on those topics most relevant to them.
