Together with the Minderheiten Kompetenz Netzwerk
(MKN), we’re hosting a 5-day exchange on minority
perspectives, participation and visibility with a special focus on Sinti and Roma communities.

WHAT IT’S ABOUT

Lived everyday experiences, minority identities and political
participation with a special focus on Sinti and Roma communities, we’ll look at how antigypsyism appears in Europe today.

WHAT YOU’LL ACTUALLY DO

  • participate in workshops & open discussions & networking opportunities
  • learn about Roma perspectives on mechanisms of antigypsyism, structural exclusion and representation
  • share your own minority background and speak about current topics, issues and ideas important to your community
  • go on an excursion to Flensburg and Sankelmark Academy
  • meet people working in local politics & European minority advocacy
  • try out storytelling and media formats
  • contribute to the “Who We Are” digital project (minority identity archive)

To give you a better idea of the process, organisation and content, we have compiled the most important questions and answers here:

1. When and where will the event take place?

The event will take place from 10 to 14 June 2026 at the Knivsberg Education Centre in Denmark, a facility run by the German minority in Denmark.

2. Who can take part?

The event is aimed at young people from 18-30 from various European minority backgrounds; we especially encourage members from Sinti and Roma Communities from across Europe to join for this event.

3. What is the focus of the programme?

The programme focuses on minority identity, political participation, discriminatory structures and especially perspectives on countering antiziganism/antigypsyism. It also explores dialogue between different minority groups, personal perspectives, and the question of how visibility and representation can be enhanced.

4. What does the programme involve?

The programme includes debates with members of different minorities and members of the local government, researchers and politicians from the Roma Community in Schleswig Holstein, workshops and networking opportunities. We will also facilitate a workshop on storytelling combined with an optional recording session for an online exhibition and digital project „Who We Are“. Also, we plan to do an excursion to Flensburg.
Topics include:
Minority identity and personal experiences, challenges and perspectives on discriminiation
Political participation and representation
Sinti and Roma perspectives in Europe
Antiziganism/Antigypsyism and structural exclusion
Exchange formats such as the Cultural Exchange Market, where you can bring others crafts or snacks from your community/region and a Minority Escape Game
Free time in Flensburg and during the evening program
A timetable will be send to you shortly before the event
We wish to respect the privacy of all participants. If at any point you do not wish to appear in photos or take part in the photo shoot, please let us know — we will then take this into account when documenting the event. Your name and the personal details you provide when registering will not be published and will be deleted immediately after the event. We will not publish anything that might suggest which minority a person belongs to.

5. What is expected of me?

We expect participants to take part actively and respectfully throughout the programme, contribute to discussions and group activities, and be open to exchange with people from different minority backgrounds. We also ask participants to bring curiosity, openness, and a willingness to reflect on their own perspectives and experiences coming from different minorities and social, cultural and geographical contexts. We expect upon registration that you read, agree and follow our Code of Conduct guidelines during the event.

6. Do I have to take part in all parts of the programme?

We ask all participants to take part in the entire programme, as the individual modules build on one another. If you have any specific reasons or constraints, please let us know in advance.

7. In which language will the event be held?

The event is expected to be held in English during the formal parts. We encourage you to speak in your respective minority languages if you like all whilst strongly recommending to find a common language to invite and include others in your informal discussions outside the program.

9. What about meals?

Meals and refreshments during breaks will be provided during the event. On the day of the excursion to Flensburg, participants will be given a packed lunch.

10. How do I get there?

You are responsible for your own travel arrangements. We reimburse your travel with up to 300€ maximum when tickets and invoices are provided and within our travel guidelines (only 2nd class fares, car travel only reimbursable up to 150€, flights only if cheaper than train, taxi costs only if approved beforehand). If you are struggling to stay within this limit and require our social fund, please let us know beforehand.
The closest train station is at Rødekro. We will organise a shuttle from Rødekro train station to the accommodation. The closest Airport is Billund Airport (1,5 hours away, no train station), but you can also fly to Hamburg (2-2,5 hours to Rødekro) or Copenhagen and take a train/bus from there (3-3.5 hours to Rødekro). We are happy to help you with questions regarding your travel.

11. Is there a cost to attend?

There are no registration or participation fees.

12. Is the event accessible?

We strive to make the event as accessible as possible. If you have any special requirements regarding accessibility, dietary needs, or accommodation, please let us know in good time so that we can find the most suitable solutions. The event space is partly accessible for a wheelchair.

13. Can I register if I’m not sure whether the topic is right for me?

Yes. If you’re part of a European Minority, interested in minority issues, anti-discrimination and exchange at European level, you’re very welcome. If you’re unsure, you can always contact us in advance.
