History

Slovenian people came to the area of Friuli-Venezia Giulia in the 7th century. By the end of the 15th century, they were included in the Habsburg monarchy. After the first world war in 1918 they came under Italian administration. They were subjected to violent fascist administration. After the second world war a new border between Italy and Jugoslavija was drawn, dividing the region between two states. The border was artificial, not based on any significant or geographical divides: in many cases separated families. Provinces of Goricia and Trieste established the infrastructure of minority organizations. The Slovene language is co-official in many of the municipalities and visual bilingualism is applied in most of the non-urban settlements with traditional Slovene presence.

Special customs and traditions

We had many traditions that persist in the countryside where the Slovene presence is stronger.

  • KRAŠKA OHCET – CARSIC WEDDING: a festival based on the marriage ceremony of the Carsic people, in which about 500 people take part, dressed in traditional costumes
  • KRAŠKI PUST  -CARST CARNIVAL: is taking place in Opicina since 1967 and attracts masked groups and allegorical floats

Fun facts/Celebrities/Jokes/Sayings
