Youth Leader Committee in Trst/ Trieste- Italy

To this year’s first Youth Leader Committee under the motto “30 years – Kick Off” YEN was invited by our Slovenian Member Organization MOSP from Italy. The event took place from the 26.02.- 02.03.2014 in Bazovica/ Bassovizza close to Trst/ Trieste. As the name of the event says, this meeting was the starting point of our 30. anniversary year and gave us a great opportunity to look back into 30 years of YEN’s history and the history of minorities and human rights. To also analyse it, and to take a look into the future of us and the European minorities in general. Living in this village of 700 inhabitants, which is slightly 20 minutes away from Trieste by bus, and only some kilometres from the Slovenian border, YEN’s Working Groups kept on developing a “White Paper on Minority Rights”, besides their usual tasks. It will be a long-term strategic paper, which will express the future needs and ideas to position the Youth of European Nationalities especially regarding the Minority Rights in the coming years.

This is why we invited Burhan Zekir from SUMNAL to this event, to inform us about the current situation of the Roma- Rights, to analyse it and to add the situation of the Roma as an important part to our White Paper. Besides the work MOSP offered great fringe events. Inviting former YEN and FUEN members as experts on minorities, who gave us interesting insights through their presentations and into the past of YEN, but also preparing a city tour through Trieste with its Slovenian past and present. The meeting ended with the biggest holiday all people in the region were looking forward, carnival!

With this Kick- Off event also the tour of YEN’s Minority Flag started. It is an Anniversary- Tour, in which the flag will visit our Member Organisations all around Europe at their National- and other holidays during this year.
The Flag symbolises 30 years of solidarity and connectivity, tolerance and friendship among the Youth of European Nationalities, which has to continue also in the next 30 and more years.
This is also, why it was an outstanding pleasure to us to ring in this year with the revived MOSP.
