European Youth Forum – COMEM

On Friday the 13th and Saturday the 14th of November, the Council of Members (COMEM) of the European Youth Forum (YFJ) took place in Torino, Italy. Hester Knol and Igor Guizzardi participated on behalf of YEN.

A podiums discussion with among others Giorgia Meloni (Italian Minister for Youth), Rita Borsellino (MEP), Ralf-René Weingärtner (Director, CoE's Directorate of Youth and Sport) Marielle Brüning (law professor, Leiden University) on the topic ‚Defending Youth Rights in Europe!’ took place. It was an interesting discussion with insights from very different sides.

Furthermore YEN participated in Working Groups on Vocational Education and Democracy. In the Working Group on Vocational Education the status and image of Vocational Education has been discussed and how Vocational Education can be better promoted. Conclusion was to work on easier and better mobility possibilities of students, so that one can climb from vocational education to higher education. But also to work on image of Vocational Education by supporting starters of companies, promote non-formal education and to promote competence-based education.

YEN was also present during the session dealing with the revision of Youth Forums structure. It is now a continuous process within the YFJ that aims to integrate the needs of the MOs through constant innovation and development.

The thematic squares on the Lisbon Strategy and Migration have been visited by YEN. The role of the European Youth Forum in the Lisbon Strategy was explained and opinions of what is necessary for youth was further elaborated.

Another podiums discussion about the European Youth Capital of the year 2011 was held with organisers of the European Youth Capital of 2009 (Rotterdam, The Netherlands), the European Youth Capital of 2010 (Torino, Italy) and the organisers of the European Youth Capital of 2011 (Antwerp, Belgium).
